For, as [[Hafiz]] notes in [[Admit Something by Hafiz|this poem]], which ends with a delicious lunar line, that is what all of us really want: ![[Admit Something by Hafiz#*Admit Something*]] ## Love is kindness > [!cue] Love is kindness [[The Dalai Lama]] often states: "My religion is kindness." As [[Hafiz]] wrote years ago, for one lover to say sincerely to their lover, while tenderly holding their lover's hand, and with tears in their eyes, "How can I be more loving to you; how can I be more kind?" Well this happens all the time in heaven, we hear, and one day — perhaps tomorrow — it will begin to happen on earth: ![[It Happens All the Time in Heaven by Hafiz#*It Happens All the Time in Heaven*]] ## Spending time with those you love > [!cue] Time spent with people you love is never wasted time. Reminiscent of [[Bertrand Russell]]’s [[“Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”]], [[Time spent with people you love is never wasted time.]] ## Only love can drive out hate > [!cue] Only love can drive out hate As [[Martin Luther King Jr]] said, [[“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”]] ## Loving fully > [!cue] Love fully [[Kahlil Gibran]] ![[Do not love half lovers by Khalil Gibran#*Do not love half lovers*]] ## Infatuation > [!cue] Love as infatuation It is ok to be wrapped up in the sweet intoxifying scent of love. As [[Elizabeth Gilbert]] said in her memoir [[Eat, Pray, Love]], [[“To lose balance sometimes for love is part of living a balanced life.”]] The intoxifying intimate taste of love is captured by, of course, [[Rumi]], in his poem: ![[I want to see you by Rumi#*I want to see you*]] [[“I want to know the joy of how you whisper ‘more’.”]] Is there a more beautiful line than this.[^1] And what about infatuation, or love, after the fact of a relationship’s end. [[Miriam Hunt|A friend of mine]] tells the story of going into a shop to buy some snacks for her Māori class and smelling the scent of her recently parted love. Had he really been there? How could she tell this? On walking into the class it is clear he has just been in that shop, also buying snacks. The sense of smell is the most evocative sense we have, ## Love for itself [[Tal Ben-Shahar]] says that happiness is the [[Happiness is an answer in itself.|ultimate answer in itself.]][^2] [[“Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.”]] > [!cue] Love in and of itself ## Non-possessiveness, non-attachment > [!cue] Love is sufficient unto love. As [[Kahlil Gibran]] also says, [[“Love possesses not nor would it be possessed, For love is sufficient unto love.”]] > [!cue] Real love is connection, not attachment [[Real love is connection, not attachment.]] ## Non-control And again, as [[Khalil Gibran]] writes: [[“think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.”]] --- # Reference ```dataview list from [[]] or #love and !outgoing([[]]) and -"Templates" where file.name != this.file.name sort file.name ASC ``` --- # Archive - [[“Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”]] [^1]: Hello.
